People and Place

"Toraja"

Haiii guys... Welcome back to my blog 😀
How are you today ? I hope you always healthy.
In this blog I want to share about people and place in my mother village, that is Toraja, South Sulawesi.

The country of Indonesia has a very abundant cultural wealth. Besides that, in Indonesia there are also various ethnic groups. One of them is the Toraja tribe in Sulawesi. This tribe is a tribe that is somewhat unique compared to other tribes in Indonesia.
In South Sulawesi Province, the Toraja people may be easy ti recogniez, because they have distinctive characteristics that are different from other tribes.
some characteristics that are owned by the Toraja. If you are not included in the following characteristics, it does not mean you are not a Toraja person 😄. Lets check it out.

1. Loud noises

Because the Torajas were originally in the mountains, whose terrain was filled with hilly valleys, as well as houses that were far apart, so to communicate they had to increase their volume several octaves higher than other tribes in the lowlands. So do not be surprised if in other areas there are those who shout your name in a high-pitched voice, it is certain that your friend is from your hometown. But now due to technological developments, and the discovery of cellphones, the screaming seems to have been a little abandoned.

2. Thick accent
In the yard, the Toraja people are more comfortable speaking using the language of their ancestors, the Toraja language. Even if you try to use Indonesian, he will be ridiculed "Toraya language mba'mokan us". So if you meet people from other tribes and must speak Indonesian, their thick accent will come out. Words that are not in the Big Indonesian Dictionary such as: le ', toda', sia, ba ', etc. sometimes flow profusely from the mouth of the Toraja people who try to speak Indonesian. But now many Torajans are starting to learn to use Indonesian without using dialects or using popular dialects on television (such as the Jakarta accent).

3. Ma' Lindo-lindo duku' bai

Ma'lindo-lindo duku'bai are the original traditional face of the Toraja people. It is not clear how the exact definition of the Ma'lindo-lindo duku'bai is. But some people out there conclude that what is meant by "Ma'lindo-lindo duku'bai" is a person who has a filthy, greasy, and rectangular face.
But make no mistake, although there are still many who stay to maintain the traditionality of their faces, but not a few Toraja people today, especially young people are transformed into a city person who is fashionable and beautiful with a white face for using bleach made in China.

4. kind and polite

Basically, the Toraja people are kind, polite and humble, because they were originally educated for it. Torajans believe that being kind and polite and humble can bring blessings (dalle ') into their lives. In addition, it can avoid personal and family from social sanctions in the form of siri 'or shame.
However, due to changes in lifestyle and the existence of global warming today there are only Toraja people who do things that are not in accordance with norms and values. Not surprisingly, lately many criminal cases have occurred in Toraja, although it is relatively less compared to other regions in Indonesia.

5. Lack of Confidence

If you've been in the sae class as a Toraja at school or on campus, then make sure they will choose the back seat. This is because they believe that te most potentially appointed by the teacher or lecturer to answer or work on the problem is the person sitting first. But this does not mean that Toraja people are stupid or not smart, how come many Toraja people are smart. This is, just because they lack self-confidence and fear excessive

Famous place in Toraja

1. Wisata Museum Ne'Gandeng
One of the world-famous tourist sites in Tana Toraja is the Ne 'Gandeng Museum located in Pelangi Village, Sa' and Balusu, Toraja, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Formerly, this building was a place for the burial procession of Ne 'Gandeng who died on 3 August 1994.
The Toraja people are known as individuals who really respect their ancestors. So the local government decided to make the location of the burial site Ne 'Coupled as a museum. Now, this museum has received much attention from the world and makes it as one of the most popular tourist attractions.

2.  Wisata Londa

Visiting Tana Toraja is invalid if you haven't come to Londa. Londa is a cemetery complex located on a large rock cliff. Having a location not far from Rantepao City about 7 Km, makes Londa as one of the Toraja recreational parks most visited by tourists.
Londa is surrounded by mountains so it offers a fresh and cool atmosphere when you are here. There is a different sensation when you enter Londa, the magical nuance and cold atmosphere will make your chills down your neck. There are many caves and holes in the cliff that were deliberately carved to place a coffin filled with corpses. Because, not just any body may be placed here. Placements must be adjusted based on family lines.

3. Icon of the statue of Jesus Christ on the Peak of Burake Tana Toraja

The statue of "Jesus Christ bless" becomes a symbol of religious icons as well as a common tourist attraction that is always crowded by local and foreign tourists. The 40 meter high statue is also touted as the second tallest Jesus statue in the world after the country of Poland which has a 51 meter tall Jesus statue.

The livelihood of the average toraja person is farming, which is coffee, because toraja coffee is very tasty and is known by all people.
